Tree destruction at Claywood

I am on record as supporting the new cycle path that will link Fitzwalter Road to Sheaf Valley Park via the Cholera Monument. However I was dismayed to see the destruction of so many trees last Friday on the corner of Shrewsbury Road and Barnes Court. The trees provided a home for many birds as well as helping to soak up the pollution from the busy Shrewsbury Road. Was it really necessary to decimate them?
This follows Amey’s needless destruction of trees at Meadowhead roundabout and along the ring road dual carriageway by St Mary’s Gate.
The sign (pictured) was posted half way along Barnes Court (which is a dead end leading to some flats), where very few people would notice it.
