Station battle continues

Font not the right size?

The recent article in the Sheffield Star, proclaiming victory for the Station Bridge campaigners, was unfortunately, rather premature. This letter from Philip Hammond, the Secretary of State for Transport, to Nick Clegg MP, Deputy Prime Minister, shows that the campaign must go on. Wouldn’t it be good if we could believe what we read in the papers?

The letter makes it clear that the Department for Transport are still considering ticket barriers, timed passes for pedestrians, and/or enhancement of alternative routes (by which presumably they mean the muggers bridge.) Residents against Station Closure continue to campaign for unimpeded access through the station. I would like to see the old bridge improved, but this must not be at the expense of losing access through the station.
